Friendship. A poem dedicated to my school friends, Kevin and Joan.

A school in common was where we met,
but friendship brought us close.
That friendship born of your kind heart
was what I valued most.

A friendship in which we all felt safe,
to learn, and grow, and fail.
A friendship in which we took a ball,
a canoe, a climb, a sail.

And when those years had passed us by,
as they did for all our peers,
We flew the nest, excited, free,
to college, and careers.

We keenly chased our hopes and dreams,
never looking back.
The up and downs, the in’s and out’s,
the good times and the black.

It’s not that I forgot you,
or you didn’t mean that much.
It’s that I thought that you were fine,
just slightly out of touch.

I thought that given a bit more time,
our paths were bound to cross.
But when I stopped to look for you,
they told me of my loss.

I hope that where fate finds you now,
it's fun just like before.
With lots of friends to hang around,
and nightclubs to explore.

That Kevin plays with Celtic,
Paradise, in the sky,
And Joan can sing along with Denver,
Rocky Mountains, way up high.

But most of all, know you're missed:
your friendship, grace, and smile.
I'm sorry we didn't say goodbye,
and are parted ... for a while ❤
